01

Connector shape is not capability

USB-C is a reversible physical connector.

A port may implement USB 2.0 data, faster USB, USB4, charging, DisplayPort Alt Mode, or a subset. Inspect the device manual and symbols.

02

Power requires agreement

Source, cable, and sink negotiate a supported level.

A high-wattage charger cannot force unsupported power into a device, but the cable must also carry the negotiated current and power class. Verify all three components.

03

Video needs a complete path

Host, port, cable, dock, and display must share a mode.

A USB-C-shaped port without DisplayPort Alt Mode or another supported display protocol cannot output video merely by changing adapters.

04

Buy by requirement and certification

Avoid names that describe only the connector.

Write down required data rate, charging wattage, display resolution and refresh rate, then select documented and certified components that meet every link.
